Kronberg Garden July - August 2018

A Garden For Hot Summer Days

Two rewarding and recreative months at home

Fortunately, despite the long dry and warm period beginning already in springtime, the plot became a lush greenery. Thus, all along this summer, the garden has proved to be a peaceful place for recreation. Especially, at weekends, when still the smallest spots on the nearby lake shores and rivers are crowded. Nevertheless, I went swimming in the lake at least once a day!

It wasn’t long before, the stored picnic and outdoor kitchen equipment found use again. I enjoyed to improvise small meals feeling like beeing on an ongoing holiday.

Enjoy these pictures (Thank you Peter for sending some of them), and a brief story further down…

The Core Achievements Briefly Summarized

After the most drastic dredging work was completed in June, and the local water connection was available, a further development of the three ground levels was possible. The untouched bottom level and slope on the east side of the plot has got a proper cut, but already blooming flowers and herbs, of course 😉

On the middle level, the small, flat area nearby the deck, was perfect to sow a lawn. At the top of the plot, along the road, a few bushes were planted for future privacy. I liked it to manually water the sown and planted areas (it’s like meditating). However, due to the extremely long dry period and water consumption, the idea quickly came up, to implement more sustainable irrigation next year.

And now, what else? Right, it still lacks a toilet, but without sewer connection! So, a quick research was done for a compost toilet, which of course cannot just stand unprotected on the end of the driveway. A small shed was needed. A second hand hut including transport was organized. With spontaneous help from our neighbors, we were able to set up the tiny timber building on the prepared space and install the compost toilet.

Amazing how many small steps and adjustments are needed until everything is ready for use. And there are still ideas for improvement. Still, it’s good fun and the benefits are obvious. As long as the weather is nice, there are best conditions for recreation, creative work, plus muscle and mind strengthening exercises 🙂

Alltogether, I feel like a kid in an oversized sandbox – free to create whatever I like. Very joyful, uplifting and charching. I’m intrigued by the idea of a permacultur garden with a tiny house on wheels. And the best of it, there is no rush! Now, it’s time to let it all set and just observe the elements all year round.

There are still many side stories, and upcoming projects to tell… but that has to wait, at least until I can make up my mind to sit more often indoors to write posts 😉 Anyway, it was a particularly rewarding summer with a lot of physical effort, handicraft challenges, and – last, but not least – great joy!

    • Hi there!
      LG Claudia
